DEBATE: WILL THE NEW MPS' PENSION SCHEME MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Story Image

Will MPs make a last-ditch attempt to rake in the cash?

Tuesday July 27,2010

MPs are facing swingeing cuts of up to £15,000 a year in their gold-plated Parliamentary pensions – but only after the next election, the Government announced today.

In a move that infuriated members already angry over curbs on their discredited expenses system, the lavish final-salary retirement scheme will be replaced with a less-generous version based on career average pay. The MPs’ pension age is to be increased from 65 to 68.

Last night, the planned overhaul was welcomed as a long overdue brake on the Westminster gravy train.

UK NEWS: MPS TO LOSE GOLD-PLATED PENSIONS

But concerns were raised after it emerged that the proposals would not be introduced until after the next election, allowing MPs to continue piling up the cash under the hugely generous old system over the next five years.

SO ARE YOU HAPPY THE CURRENT FINAL SALARY SCHEME FOR GREEDY MPS IS TO BE REPLACED WITH A LESS LAVISH ONE?

DO YOU THINK THE DELAY IN INTRODUCING THE NEW PLANS WILL SIMPLY ALLOW MPS TO CONTINUE TO ABUSE THE SYSTEM WHILE THEY CAN?

GREEDY, INCOMPETANT MPS

09.08.10, 11:15am

My MP, Mr Ian Liddell-Grainger always claimed expenses in advance for months when parliament was not sitting.
He claimed for 12 council tax payments per annum when there are only 10 payments, and the amounts claimed are always exact £10s of pounds while council tax bills are calculated to the penny. He also claimed £250 per month for food for the four months of the year when parliament doesn’t sit.
He has almost certainly made expense claims for money that he has not paid..
Mr Liddell-Grainger signs a declaration on every expense form that the money claimed was incurred "wholly and necessarily for the performance of his/her parliamentary duties. Signing such a declaration with the intention to deceive, or in the knowledge that the recipient is likely to be deceived is defined as fraud in the Theft Act. On this evidence Ian Liddell-Grainger MP is a liar and a thief.
He is also grossly incompetent as an MP. As far as can be ascertained he has no qualifications, and has never had a proper job. He claimed to be a farmer but omits to mention the fact that the farm belonged to his father. He claimed to be a major in the army, but he has no campaign medals and I have never seen him at a Nov 11th parade in uniform.
He is notorious for not answering letters from constituents, and he is the only MP ever to have been banned from the fax-your-MP web site for sending emails to himself in an attempt to boost his disgracefully low response ratings.
This information has been provided to senior Conservative MPs who have done nothing about it.
How did this Scottish man get selected for a safe Conservative seat in Somerset? Could the fact that his father was head of all Freemasons in Scotland have something to do with it?

BRITISH COUPLE IN 'HONOUR KILLINGS'

A couple from Birmingham have been killed in Pakistan, police have confirmed

Sunday August 8,2010

A British couple have been murdered in Pakistan because of a dispute over a wedding, it has been revealed.

Taxi driver Gul Wazir and his wife, named locally as Begum, had reportedly visited the country to resolve the row which is believed to have arisen after a planned marriage between the Birmingham couple's daughter and a man in Pakistan fell through.

Neighbour May Sparrow, a pensioner who knew Mr Wazir since he was about 18, paid tribute to him as "a proper Brummie" who idolised his family.

She said: "Everyone knew him. He was an ordinary man looking after his family. He was so nice, and a wonderful father. He was full of life, he was delightful. There's nothing bad you could say about him. He was living a lovely life. His family all idolised him."

She said she believed he was in his mid-50s, had lived in the Alum Rock area of the city all his life and had a big family.

He had lived in his current house, in Parkfield Road, for the past 15 years or so and worked as a taxi driver, she added.

She went on: "I would imagine he went to Pakistan because he didn't want his daughter to marry this other person. It sort of fits perfectly that if his daughter didn't want to marry someone over there he would step in and stop it. But it's really upset me to think he's gone over there and got killed like that."

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "We have been informed of the murder of two people from Birmingham in Pakistan. The murder inquiry is being carried out by the authorities in Pakistan and we will support their investigation as and when required."

It is understood the couple have already been buried and the Foreign Office said it was providing consular assistance to the family.

One of the couple's sons was reportedly wounded in the incident and taken to hospital.

WILL THE NEW MPS' PENSION SCHEME MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

06.08.10, 8:08pm

Will the new MPs' pension scheme make a difference?

You must be joking - not a jot!

Our self-seeking MPs will just go on as before- ignoring the wishes of the voters and doing exactly as they want. Nothing changes - there will be more EU, more foreign aid, more human rights, more multiculturalism and more migration. Their brand new pension scheme won't help at all. The only way to get real change is to cancel their pensions; sack the lot and start over again.

FREELY AVAILABLE DRAGON?

05.08.10, 5:28am

You were invited to post the details freely available, you declined. The information is not available to all,not even the bereaved.

I post the details as fully and as up to date as possible, with as much respect as can be conveyed through this medium.

The DE cannot report the information, nor can the media at large because they are not privvy to the info.

At the very least acknowledge the lads/lasses do not care/cannot because they cannot choose how they are repatriated..

No one that I know thinks any less of any person who has lost their life or been maimed in any previous conflict.

All that we ask is for support and respect for what is happening today and tomorrow and for the forseeable future..

No politics,no historical debates, simple facts will suffice.

Respect from someone like yourself would go a long way to make the general public understand that we never forget the past.Nor will we ever forsake the sacrifice being made today by young men and women.

There is no difference in the flesh and blood of today as in times past..The big picture may differ due to the nature of the technology bringing events into homes 24/7.

I know exactly what you mean about the media and the IRA et al.However that was then and this is current.

To be exact and accurate, the information you claim is readily available IS NOT.

Only certain parties are privvy to the info and a little bit of respect when it is given would be a nice acknowledgement of the sacrifices made by those no longer capable of voicing an opinion...

No politics,no packs,no drill. No one cares about how we respect or remember the people who gave their lives.

Yesterday, today, tomorrow or any amount of years ago. What matters is the men and women are not forgotten.

Just as important are those relatives and friends left behind. And despite your opinion and prejudice this is 2010 not 1066.

I know the majority who care to read others opinions are fair minded people and decide for themselves what is right or wrong.

This is what democracy is supposedly about, freedom of speech and freedom to have an opinion.

You sadly seemsto straddle all spectrums of politics and decency depending on who you look to for support.

You are the one who has to look in the mirror and look at either a fantasist or a grumpy has been on never will be.

Which one is it? Please feel free to post the freely available info, but at least 48hrs in advance to prove you are not a fantasist.

i have to inspect the "Nightwatchmen" at 0700hrs zulu.I will pass on your regards as always.

Just in case they forget the enemy within.

Lest we forget in the morning all those who gave and are giving still.

We do not forget and we respect.ALL!!
